SNW Karate offers self-defence lessons in Ellesmere Port as part of our traditional Shito-ryu Karate programme at Christ Church C of E Primary School, Deeside, Ellesmere Port, CH65 6TQ.
Shito-ryu is one of the four major styles of karate practised worldwide and is particularly well suited to practical self-defence, with techniques designed to be direct, efficient, and effective in real-world situations.
Whether you are a parent looking for self-defence classes for your child, or an adult wanting to build confidence and practical skills, our classes are open to all ages and abilities - no experience required.
Our regular sessions run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday:
- 6:00pm–7:00pm — Children (6–10 years)
- 7:00pm–8:00pm — Youth & Adults (11 years+)
On Mondays we also run our Little Warriors programme for our youngest students:
- Monday 5:15pm–6:00pm — Little Warriors (3.5–5 years)
Our self-defence teaching is based on Shito-ryu Karate, a style with deep roots in practical, real-world situations.
The techniques we teach, such as blocks, strikes, and throws, are direct and efficient. There is no unnecessary movement, because in a genuine confrontation, every fraction of a second counts.
Our advice will always be to walk away from a threatening situation if you can. But our classes prepare you for the moments when that is not possible.
Students learn techniques for defending against grabs, knife threats, and other real-world scenarios - all taught in a safe, controlled, and supportive environment.
Self-defence training is about far more than learning to protect yourself. Here is what our students gain:
- Confidence — knowing you can handle yourself changes how you carry yourself every day
- Awareness — training sharpens your instincts and situational awareness
- Physical fitness — self-defence training builds strength, speed, and coordination
- Mental resilience — students develop calm under pressure and better emotional control
- Safety skills for children — age-appropriate self-protection awareness from an early age
- Four evenings a week — maximum flexibility for busy families in Ellesmere Port
- A supportive community — training alongside others in a respectful, encouraging environment
