SNW Karate offers self-defence lessons in Chester as part of our traditional Shito-ryu Karate programme. Shito-ryu is one of the four major styles of karate practised worldwide and is particularly well suited to practical self-defence, with techniques designed to be direct, efficient, and effective in real-world situations.
Whether you are a parent looking for self-defence classes for your child, or an adult wanting to build confidence and practical skills, our classes are open to all ages and abilities - no experience required.
Our Chester sessions are held at The King's School Chester, Wrexham Road, Chester:
- Wednesday 6:00pm–6:50pm — Children (5–10 years)
- Wednesday 7:00pm–8:00pm — Juniors & Adults (11 years+)
We also run Saturday morning sessions at Upton Village Hall, Heath Road, Upton, Chester:
- Saturday 9:15am–9:45am — Little Warriors (3.5–5 years)
- Saturday 10:00am–10:50am — Children (5–10 years)
- Saturday 11:00am–12:00pm — Juniors & Adults (11 years+)
Our self-defence teaching is based on Shito-ryu Karate - a style with deep roots in practical, real-world situations.
The techniques we teach, such as blocks, strikes, and throws, are direct and efficient. There is no unnecessary movement, because in a genuine confrontation, every fraction of a second counts.
Our advice will always be to walk away from a threatening situation if you can. But our classes prepare you for the moments when that is not possible.
Students learn techniques for defending against grabs, knife threats, and other real-world scenarios - all taught in a safe, controlled, and supportive environment.
